[Matthew 24:9]
9 Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me.

This prophecy came to fulfillment soon after Jesus resurrection. Read through the entire book of Acts, and you will see many early Christians in the first century already being persecuted for their faith.

1) Apostle Peter and John were arrested by the Sadducees and questioned by the Sanhedrin, and then flogged.
[Acts 5:33-42]
40 They called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

2) Stephen stoned to death
[Acts 7:54-57]
54 When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. 55 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God. 57 At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, 58 dragged him out of the city and began to stone him.

3) Church persecuted, scattered and imprisoned
[Acts 8:1-3]
1 On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. 2 Godly men buried Stephen and mourned deeply for him. 3 But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off both men and women and put them in prison.

4) Apostle Paul and Silas beaten and in jail
[Acts 16:22-24]
22 The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods. 23 After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. 24 When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.

Persecutions against Christians has happened since the church age. It has continue for centuries and even unto this present day 2000 years later. We must PREPARE to stand firm in our faith in Jesus Christ and for His KINGDOM.
